RE-OPENING Fall 2007
EVLT
(Endovenous Laser Treatment or Endovenous Ablation)
A new FDA-Approved treatment procedure for varicose veins. Dr. Dorcik is the first physician on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to perform EVLT. EVLT is an in-office treatment requiring only a local anesthetic. This enables patients to return to normal activity with minimal or no pain.
Sclerotherapy involves the use of a very small needle to inject a solution
into unwanted or diseased veins. The solution works by causing an irritation to the inner lining of the vein. This causes the vein to slowly close off and gradually disappear.
The needles used to perform sclerotherapy are about the size of a hair, and are equivalent to a mosquito bite. Most patients find sclerotherapy relatively painless especially when the ideal medication is used.
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy are used for both diagnosis and treatment of more significant vein problems. In many cases, varicose veins and often spider veins arise from large veins hidden under the surface of the skin. Ultrasound is a painless non-invasive way to diagnose the diseased veins. In these cases, it is necessary to treat the hidden source of the problem in order to get the visible veins on the surface of the leg to respond and disappear.
Ambulatory
Phlebectomy is a technique that allows for even the largest varicose veins to be removed, safely, effectively and permanently right in the office. This procedure, when combined with the injection of the deeper sections of the varicose veins is a lower cost, it is less invasive and equally effective alternative to the traditional "vein stripping" procedure of the past. The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure and patients may return to their normal activity within 24 hours.
